What is a life coaching?

A life coach is a professional who helps you reach a goal or make a change in your life. They help you to get out of your head and start taking action in the areas of your life that you wish to change. A life coach guides you through the process by asking questions that help you evaluate and decide which steps to take in order to reach your goal or make an important change. Then they play the important roles of motivator, strategist, and accountability partner. Their goal is to help you reach your goal in the most efficient, effective, and rewarding way possible.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

Coaching and counseling (or therapy) both create a positive, healing relationship between the coach/therapist and client that is the medium for change. Coaches and therapists are trained in understanding human behavior and motivation. Both help clients set and achieve their goals.

  • Focuses on both the past and the present

  • Therapy can help heal wounds from the past

  • Treats a mental health or substance abuse problem

  • Generally covered by insurance and health savings accounts

  • Providers are licensed and regulated by the state, which helps ensure proper training and ethical and legal standards are followed

  • Confidentiality (with certain limitations) is protected by law

Coaching:

  • Focuses on setting and achieving goals in the present and future (doesn’t deal with the past)

  • Coaching does not involve a mental health diagnosis

  • Coaching helps mentally well people function at a higher level

  • Is NOT covered by insurance or health savings accounts

  • There is no licensing or particular training or credential required to work as a coach

  • Confidentiality not protected by law

What happens in our coaching sessions?

In coaching sessions, you will examine your mindset and learn about which thought patterns serve you and which don’t, and learn to let go of what doesn’t serve you. We will look at some struggles/misunderstandings you may have about yourself or others, your ability to make bold choices in life, and learn to follow through by trusting yourself completely to do so. We will work on self-confidence and perceived “mental blocks”. We will explore “obstacles” you have identified that keep you “stuck” and perceive yourself as unable to move past. If you don’t know what those blocks are, we pursue “clarity coaching” in which you will identify your blocks are learn how to move past them.

Will insurance cover my sessions?

No, coaching services are not covered by insurance.

Why hire a life coach?

One of the reasons there is a growing demand for coaching is the complexity of modern-day life. Things aren’t as simple they once were. Whereas your parents may have been happy to sustain a job that paid the bills, most people today want a job that is personally fulfilling and financially rewarding. Successful people choose to create work that aligns with and reflects their core values. If you aren’t doing what you love, even if you are financially rewarded, the likelihood of you feeling fulfilled or happy is limited. Are you doing what you most enjoy in life? Are you feeling depleted or fulfilled? Are you on the path to your financial goals? Do you live in accordance with what you value most? Can you do it alone? Absolutely you can! However, a life coach with tools can notably speed up your path to results! An athlete would not consider going to the Olympics without a coach. The extra edge of having a coach provides you with a competitive advantage and a level of preparation and support to face anticipated challenges with grit and grace. Why shouldn’t you have the same advantage in your own personal and professional life? You’ll be impressed with the results you create!
